I thoroughly enjoy module launches and receiving a new project. They generate an abundance of ideas and inspire creativity. I am ready to begin my research and develop a design concept. My aim for this module is to keep on top of my workload by devising a schedule. I find that sometimes I stray away from tasks and panic at hand in. Hopefully, I can avoid this by being organised. This module focuses on renovating old, existing buildings. Architect William McDonough suggests that when we redesign "we stop trying to be less bad and we start figuring out how to be good." (1) McDonough implies that restoration can influence good design. Designers need to be aware of how poor design impacts the environment. I am passionate about the environment and sustainable design. Restoring a building is similar to recycling as interior designers can revitalise a neglected space. The Mark Addy is an abandoned bar located along the River Irwell, Manchester. As part of this module, we are required to transform the space into a Co-working office. Before the project, I didn’t know much about co-working spaces. Such environments provide a space for small business owners and entrepreneurs to work collaboratively. I could potentially work in a similar setting, therefore, I can relate to the client. The first task involves a group presentation about existing co-working spaces. We have also been asked to visit a local co-working bank and present our findings. Our group will visit Llyods bank. I think primary research is valuable to my projects at university as it influences ideas. I'm apprehensive about working in a group as previous modules have required a large amount of teamwork and its frustrating when others don't contribute as much. However, we have worked together to divide the tasks equally and generate a schedule to complete our work by next week. Tomorrow, I will go to the bank with another member of my group. I'm excited to experience an authentic business hub. I am nervous to present as the thought of speaking in front of a group of people can be daunting. Nevertheless, I have presented several times before and each time I gain confidence.
