Catherine Tomlin (a tutor based at the Clifford Whitworth library) gave our group a lecture on critical and reflective writing. It was an essential session as we require these skills to write our blog and work experience journal. I have experience writing reflectively, but it was helpful to revise. Catherine taught us how to structure our writing, how to be critical and key features we should include in our work. I struggle with written analysis; Catherine provided a template to help. I am a kinesthetic learner as I find physical activities most useful. Catherine provided several exercises to illustrate her arguments. I favour lectures like this as they are interactive and benefit me most. I can transfer the knowledge gained from this session to my future modules and profession. Written communication is a valuable skill to obtain and will attract potential employers. The library hosts similar lectures to support our written work. I aim to take part in these sessions to increase my understanding and improve my skills.
