We had our final module from EGGER Laminates today. Unfortunately, I had missed the second module as the date was re-arranged. However, luckily due to the lectures' virtual format, the presentation has been recorded to watch it back and learn about the 'Design Innovation Decorative Surfaces' of EGGER Laminates. Today's session covered the 'Application, Materials Selection and How to Specify' the finishes. This seminar was my favourite out of all three as I could see examples of interiors and how laminate was used in these spaces.

The guest speaker (Victoria) shared examples of where laminate was used to imitate more expensive and less sustainable materials such as marble. She demonstrated how combining two different materials can create some unique designs. I think I will use EGGER laminates in my current project, as my concept is the elements, and I believe I can create an elegant and sophisticated scheme that represents this idea. Victoria also revealed the EGGER World, an online portal that demonstrated the company’s product range and applications. EGGER world is a beneficial tool that I will take time to explore and review their entire product range.
To finish the lecture, Victoria advised us on how to specify products. Specifying products is a crucial aspect of design as it communicates to the contractors what finishes we want in our schemes. If the specification is not done correctly, the contractors may use the wrong products. Therefore, it's the designer's responsibility to be accurate. I would not want to learn this the hard way. Luckily, Victoria explained how we could specify the EGGER Laminates products correctly.
I enjoyed the final lecture from EGGER Laminates and found it extremely helpful. I'm excited to use their projects in my current project since I understand which materials are appropriate and how to specify them. I plan to catch up on the session I missed this week to learn about how the company create their textures and designs.
